Parthenon Temple: The largest and most famous building on the Acropolis of Athens!

Athens is a city of great history. Its sights and hidden treasures excite millions of visitors every year. Athens is considered a meeting point for a constantly increasing number of tourists who like to visit its archaeological sites, museums, cafes, restaurants, hotels and commercial shops. The famous commercial pedestrian street of Athens on Ermou Street, is a vivid part of the city where the locals shop and move towards any direction.

Other commercial areas worth for someone to visit are places near the center of Athens such as Kolonaki, Pagkrati, Nea Ionia, Chalandri and a little far from the center, in the south suburbs, someone could also visit Glifada. The presence of big Malls is the new trend in Athens shopping culture, as it is too intense in the areas of Marousi, Agios Dimitrios, Tavros and Spata.

The historical center of Athens is a great choice for walking and entertainment. The pedestrian street from Ermou Street to Gkazi area, is delightful for walking. However, anyone who wants to avoid walking can use the Metro (Blue Line 1) which connects Syntagma Square with Gkazi area (Kerameikos’ station).

The sacred rock of Athens, Acropolis, is a classical must see for everyone. As for the new Acropolis Museum which was built in 2009, it is something no one should miss. Some of the greatest ancient monuments of our global heritage, are exhibited there.

For anyone who wishes to get a taste of the “old Athens”, they should go for a walk at the magical streets of Plaka, Thissio and Petralona where they can find beautiful cafes and restaurants with traditional Greek food. In order not to get lost, you should be advised by the maps of the city, located on every Metro station.
